1. What inspired you to start Humanize Wealth, and how does your approach to financial planning differ from traditional firms?
We founded Humanize Wealth in response to a massive opportunity for using wealth to drive positive social and environmental outcomes - especially in light of The Great Wealth Transfer from Boomers to Next Gen investors. Humanize Wealth seeks to meet the growing demand for values-aligned financial planning and portfolio management in Seattle and beyond.
We specialize impact investing, an area traditionally reserved for advisors working with ultra-wealthy families and large foundations. But we believe deeply that you don’t need to be a billionaire to align your money with your values. Families and institutions with meaningful, though more modest, wealth turn to us because we offer something different. Here’s what makes our approach stand out:
Humanize Wealth is flexible and meets clients where they are: instead of transactional, productized services we focus on relational, collaborative and customized client experiences.
We combine detailed financial planning with values-aligned investment portfolios that seek shared prosperity for clients and communities.
Beyond building portfolios comprised of stocks and bonds, we also source, research and recommend impactful investments in privately held companies, real estate funds, regenerative agriculture, co-operatives, community owned assets and more.
2. How has being part of the Labour Temple community influenced your work or business culture?
The Labour Temple has been instrumental in influencing our work and company culture. The building is a beautiful, warm, inviting and functional space and is packed with amenities like the member's lounge, meeting rooms, phone booths and larger convening spaces. While we spend much of the day in the comfort and privacy of our individual office, these spaces provide additional room and flexibility. We also enjoy extras like the gym, bike storage, and rooftop deck. The nicely curated, rotating artwork produced by local artists adds a unique and inspiring layer throughout the building. It all feels welcoming and energizing - the antithesis of the typically stale, lifeless corporate office building.
Our clients and guests invariably comment on how nice the space feels, a reflection of the building's expertly curated design, construction and furnishings. We also find the location is convenient given abundant transportation options and parking. The Faul Development team manages the building with an eye for detail, are exceedingly responsive to our needs and requests, and regularly host creative and inviting tenant and community events.
3. What’s one piece of financial advice or mindset shift you wish more people knew?
Some of our most inspiring success stories come from clients who move from being anxious and uncertain about money to feeling grounded, empowered, and connected to what truly matters, shifting from a mindset of scarcity to abundance. For some, this shift is sparked by a major life event or change in circumstances. For others, it’s the financial planning and values-aligned investment process itself that brings clarity and confidence, even joy. Once they see that their long-term needs are covered, they’re free to turn their attention to what they care about most—relationships, community, and making a positive impact on the world.
